About Us

Our History

Hill & Son Funeral Home is a part of the continuation of funeral service provided at the same location since the conclusion of World War II. The original establishment was started by Oscar Eckhoff and his wife Faye. Mr. Eckhoff started in the funeral business working as an embalmer for A.C. Hardware where caskets were sold and constructed. Following World War II, Oscar purchased the current facility and started his own business, Eckhoff Funeral Home. Oscar and Faye ran the business until her death in 1961.

In 1976 the business was purchased by Glenn and Effie Hill from Oscar and Wilma Eckhoff. At that time the name was changed to Eckhoff-Hill Funeral Home. In 1984 ownership was transferred to Richard (Rick) Hill and the name was then changed to Hill & Son Funeral Home in 1994.

Rick passed away May 18, 2009 and Hill & Son Funeral Home is now owned and operated by Jeannette and David Hill, Rick's wife and son, who have continued serving the Appleton City, Montrose, Rockville, Prairie City, and Taberville communities with same dedication to personal and professional service that have remained a standard of our long history. This organization has always been dedicated the highest degree of service that we can provide at the most affordable prices to our families. We continue that pledge to provide meaningful and personal service to every family we serve.

Sharing Service Details

We reduce the stress of contacting those who need the details of the service for your loved one. We post the dates and times of the service as part of the online memorial on our website. You can then either share the memorial on your Facebook or X page or copy the details from the site into an email or text. Both options give you the peace of mind that you have provided the necessary information to those who need it.
