Belew
Jul 21, 1930 — Dec 19, 2020
A Celebration of Life will be announced for a later date in the spring. Please check the website at a later date.
Wilma Lucille Belew, 90, passed away December 19, 2020 in Appleton City, Missouri. She was born July 21, 1930 the third of six children born to Henry Earl and Elizabeth Henrietta (Lesmeister) Sparkes. Wilma was born in Kansas City, and her family moved to a farm near Eudora, Kansas when the children were young. They were faithful members of Holy Family Catholic Church and she attended and graduated from Eudora High School before moving to the Kansas City area. She became a skilled book keeper for several companies throughout her lifetime and was absolutely meticulous, always paying attention to important details which set her apart from others.
She and Victor Zinn were united in marriage and to this union Victor, Jr. was born. They were divorced after a few years and Wilma worked hard to support and care for her son. After several years she met and soon married Oscar Belew. They joined families making a happy home for Barbara and Victor.
Wilma and Oscar retired to Appleton City making it their home. Together they ran a small daycare center for three or four children for over ten years. They both loved caring for these children and adored entertaining their own grandchildren.
She enjoyed playing the organ in her home and cooking. Doing find-a-word puzzles was also a hobby of Wilma's. When needed, she was helpful to her friends and neighbors. She attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Golden Apples senior citizens club and the Rebeka's where she continued to share her excellent bookkeeping skills and her organizational skills as well, participating as long as her health allowed.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and three of her siblings: Harold Sparkes, Archie Sparkes and Irene Kurtz. Survivors include her son, Victor Zinn, Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and her step-daughter, Barbara (Belew) Donios and husband Jon of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Victor and Amber; four great-grandchildren; two siblings, Carol Gordon and husband Jerry of Pharr, Texas and Jim Sparkes of Lawrence, Kansas.
