William Henry Bollweg was born January 13, 1912 in Pleasant Gap, Missouri to Henry Carl and Minnie (Wix) Bollweg. He passed away July 18, 2009 at his home in Appleton City, Missouri at 97½ years of age.
William attended Pleasant Ridge School for eight years. When he was a young boy, he, his father and brother Joe, along with a few of the neighbors decided to build the Pleasant Gap Christian Church. He was baptized and a member of that church for 70 years.
In 1937 William married Geneva Turpin and to that union four children were born, Richard, Marlene, Janet and Lyle. He attended school in Chicago to become and electrician and refrigeration repairman. Until 1955 he farmed and helped his dad milk cows. At that time he sold his farm equipment and started working as an electrician and refrigeration repairman with his brother Joe. In 1956 his marriage of 18 years ended.
In December 1959 he met, fell in love and married Lucille (Hammer) Kern. Lucille had two children, Margie and Bill. They resided on his farm in Pleasant Gap. He raised cattle and hogs until the market failed. Later William, Lucille and her sister Betty opened a ceramic business and they ran that for many years. In 1986 they sold their farm and moved to Appleton City. They soon joined the First Christian Church there and opened a ceramic business on Main St. for a few years before retiring. They did a lot of volunteer work - delivering Meals on Wheels, putting up town Christmas lights and much more. They loved traveling and had been to many different states, but they especially liked Colorado. William loved flowers, music and good food. He was a kind, gentle man, always with a smile and always very appreciative of what you did for him.
Preceding William in death was his wife Lucille, his parents Minnie and Henry Bollweg, his brother Joe Bollweg, his son Richard Bollweg, his son-in-law Andrew Siegismund and his first wife Geneva Bollweg.
Survivors include his two daughters Marlene Dehler of Appleton City, Missouri and Janet and husband Van Larson of Denver, Colorado; one son Lyle Bollweg of Golden, Colorado; one daughter-in-law Bonnie Bollweg of Englewood, Colorado; one stepdaughter Margie Siegismund of Rockville, Missouri; one stepson Bill Kern and wife Nan of Butler, Missouri; twelve grandkids; 26 great-grandkids and six great-great-grandkids.
