Willard Wilson Daugherty of Montrose, Missouri was born to Thomas and Ruth (Birch) Daugherty March 19, 1924 in Deepwater, Missouri. He passed away June 28, 2006 in Leawood, Kansas at 82 years of age after a long struggle with bone cancer.
Willard a.k.a. "W.W." was well known in the area being a banker in the Montrose Savings Bank for over 30 years and serving as the president, board chairman and majority stockholder prior to his retirement in 1978. Several years later, he served as Director of Publicity and Coordination for the State of Missouri Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. He was also the Administrator of Ellett Memorial Hospital until his second retirement at age 65.
During his life, Willard was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church being a lector, communion minister and religious education instructor. He was on the first Diocesan Pastoral Council and was past-president of the Council of Catholic Laity.
He served his county in World War II in China and Burma where he earned four combat stars and the Bronze Star among other medals. He was a charter member of VFW Post #8820 in Montrose. Willard was a member of the Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force Association and Commander of the Ozark Basha, China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He was an active member of the Knight's of Columbus, serving St. Henry's Council #1125 in Montrose as Grand Knight and Advocate. He also served as treasurer for the Missouri State Knight's of Columbus. Mr. Daugherty was formerly Mayor of Montrose, President of the Community Betterment Club, city councilman, school board member and treasurer, Chairman of the Henry County Economic Development Council Board, served on the Henry County 911 Communication Board, and was Chairman of the Henry County Industrial Development Authority. He also served as a scoutmaster, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball coach.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella, of the home; four sons, Larry Daugherty of Olathe, Kansas, William Daugherty of Leawood, Kansas, Dennis Daugherty and wife Judy of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and John Daugherty and wife Linda of Lenexa, Kansas; one daughter, Mary Daugherty, of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Darren and Jason Daugherty, Alyssa Hellebusch, Jennifer Hirt, Liz, Laura and Amanda Daugherty; and four great-grandchildren.
