Wilferd August Berks, 88, died Saturday, March 17, 2012. He had been a resident of Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri for the past three years.
Wilferd was born May 10, 1923 on the family farm east of Montrose, Missouri, the son of John Bernard Berks and Ida Ottele Baer Berks. As a youth he attended a one room school, Lookout Primary School. After graduation from Montrose High School he served four years in the U.S. Naval Coast Guard. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he returned to Montrose to farm until his retirement in 1990. Wilferd was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and VFW.
He leaves to mourn for him, three sisters: Dorothy Dennis of Lexington, North Carolina, Dolores Pratt of Clinton, Missouri and Esther Rice of Kansas City, Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Wilma Berks of Kansas City, Missouri. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Munsterman and one brother, Raymond Berks.
