The FUNERAL SERVICE for Mr. Stephan will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Missouri on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at
2:00 p.m.

MINISTERS for the service will be Reverend Francis Leslie and Reverend Richard Fenwick.

VISITATION will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home, Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

INTERMENT will be in the Harmony Cemetery in rural Appleton City, Missouri.

John Warren Stephan, age 89, was born on July 23, 1925 in the rural community of Ohio between Appleton City and Lowry City to John and Bessie (Johnson) Stephan.

Warren was the fourth of five children, Donald, Leo, Irene (Lewellen), and Loree (Gilkey). He attended grade school at Ohio and completed one year of high school in Appleton City before returning to help his dad on the farm.

On August 26, 1948, he married Wilma Fenwick from Montrose, Missouri. They had five children together, Sharon Murray (Donnie), Gerald (Betty Waite), Wanda Bock (Dennis), and Anita Hawkins (Jimmy), and Johnny who died in infancy. In 1954 Warren and Wilma were saved and baptized. They just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They have nine grandchildren: Amanda (Murray) Schiereck, Alan Murray, Matt Stephan, Erin (Stephan) Vogel, Jennifer Bock, Cameron Bock, Garrett Hawkins, Kara (Hawkins) Bettels and Eric Hawkins, and fifteen great-grandchildren: Avery and Reese Scheireck, Noah, Ian and Jace Murray, Coy Lila and Reid Stephan, Abby, Mason and Case Vogel, Adelyn and Colton Hawkins, Aidan Bettels and Cora Hawkins and one great-grandchild on the way. Warren is also survived by his sister-in-law, Irma Stephan, brother-in-law, Richard Fenwick and wife, Fannie, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Warren was a farmer his whole life except for a while when he was in high school, when he worked for Schlichtman Hatchery. He was still helping on the farm at 87 years old and his tremendous knowledge of farming was very helpful and welcome.

He carried a wealth of history in his head of his community and loved sharing it at every opportunity.

He could sing, play the guitar, banjo and French harp to the delight of his family and friends.

Warren was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, good friend and neighbor. He passed away at his home of 66 years on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Warren was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
