Warren Leslie Smith, 94, was born east of Tiffin, Missouri November 23, 1911 to Thomas Cleveland and Mamie Ellen (Hart) Smith. He passed away Friday, November 3, 2006 at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri.

Warren spent his early years living east of Tiffin. His family later moved to the Walker, Missouri area where he completed 8th grade at Dederick, Missouri. He farmed with his dad, uncles and later his brothers. They farmed many acres owning one of the first horse drawn hay balers. They all worked together camping out for days while they baled hay around the area. For a couple of years Warren and some of his buddies also went to Iowa to pick corn during harvest months. Warren and Minnie Marie Bedford were united in marriage February 21, 1937 and to this union five children were born. The Smith's celebrated 55 years of marriage shortly before Minnie's passing. Warren and Minnie were active in the Ohio Christian Church as were their children. He was an Elder, the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and served as the teacher to the older Sunday school class until his age and health would not permit him to drive anymore.

Warren often talked of the many changes he had seen in his 94 years of life, from working horses, using steam engines to seeing some of the first airplanes fly and scaring the horses when they flew over. When Warren got too old to work anymore he got himself a chair and sat in front of the house to pass the time. He also enjoyed watching the old westerns on TV and watching his children and grandchildren work. He was always interested in what everyone was doing. He always thought positive no matter what was happening. Even though his eyesight and health were failing he never complained. He always went around whistling and was always happy as he fed the livestock and chickens. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Minnie; eight siblings: twins Ellen and Lester who died at birth, Earl, Tommy, Cecil, Fern, Nova and DeLoris. He is survived by his children: Leslie W. Smith and wife Maria of Appleton City, Missouri, Evelyn M. Wilmoth and husband Larry of Gravitte, Arkansas, Vernetia E. Preston and husband Charles of Bolivar, Missouri, Marilyn A. Roper of Fair Grove, Missouri and, Danny R. Smith and Toya of Appleton City, Missouri, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Ester Maschewski and Alma Calkins both of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
