The FUNERAL SERVICE for Vernalee will held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on
Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.

The MINISTER will be Pastor Ron Beaton.

VISITATION will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

INTERMENT will be in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

The family suggests that MEMORIALS can be made to the Appleton City Cemetery or
Trinity United Methodist Church.

Vernalee K. Hawkins, 84, daughter of Vernie E. and Edna L. (French) Dodson, was born October 24, 1928 in St. Clair County, Missouri. She passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 in Appleton City, Missouri.

Vernalee attended Ohio Grade School in rural Lowry City, Missouri, and then attended Lowry City High School, graduating in 1946. She was united in marriage to James L. Hawkins in Harrisonville, Missouri on April 5, 1947. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City, Missouri.

Vernalee was a Girl Scout Leader. Throughout her life, she always had a good job, working at Ellett Memorial Hospital as a Nurse's Aide, Clover Leaf Manufacturing as a Bookkeeper, Butler High School as a Bookkeeper and was co-owner of the Blue Inn Restaurant from 1978 to 1990, when she retired.

Vernalee enjoyed visiting with friends, bowling, embroidery, and making quilts for her grandchildren. Her family's favorite memories were of her cooking fried chicken, making pies and spending time in the kitchen with grandkids on her hip.

Preceding Vernalee in death were her parents; husband, James on March 29, 2013; two brothers, Duane Dodson and J. W. Dodson.

She is survived by her children: son, Dean Hawkins, daughter, Sue Creach and Cliff, son, Jimmy Hawkins and Anita, all of Appleton City, Missouri; two sisters-in-law: Nadine Stephenson of Holton, Kansas and Evelyn Dodson of Lowry City, Missouri; six grandchildren: Shannon Burkes and Carl, Deana Self and Tim, Lisa Bolton and Loren, Garrett Hawkins and Jennifer, Kara Bettels and Adam, and Eric Hawkins and Erin; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, Jaiden; many nieces and nephews.
