A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Truman at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

OFFICIATING at the service will be Jerry Johannigmeier.

VISITATION will be preceding the Memorial Service between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at Hill and Son Funeral Home.

A PRIVATE FAMILY INURNMENT will be in Appleton City Cemetery Appleton City, Missouri at a later time.

The family suggests MEMORIAL donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church - Backpack Ministry or Heartland Hospice.  These may be left at the funeral home.

Truman Paul Johannigmeier, 79, departed this life December 2, 2018 in Appleton City, Missouri.  He was born in Appleton City March 10, 1939, the son of Paul Frederick and Alice Carlisle (Brown) Johannigmeier.

Truman grew up on the family farm attending and graduating from Appleton City High School in 1957.  During his school years, he was known as the class clown.  At his 50 ^th class reunion, Truman was voted "The Classmate Who Had Changed The Least."  During his youth, he loved being outside, enjoying helping his dad and Uncle Eddie farm.

During their teens, Truman and Janice Marie Bowles became sweethearts and on June 25, 1960 they were married at Trinity United Methodist Church.  They were blessed with two daughters and a marriage of over 50 years.

After graduation, Truman attended heavy equipment school in Idaho immediately taking a job with Peabody Coal Co. near Appleton City, running heavy equipment and especially being proud to run "Big Brutus" the famous monstrous coal shovel.  He also became a licensed realtor part time.

In 1966 the family of four moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri where Truman was employed by Western Electric in their gold plating shop.  He was also very active in the Lee's Summit volunteer fire department.  After a few years Truman bought a semi-truck and hauled grain.  Soon after, the family moved to Clinton, Missouri where Truman owned and operated Clinton Feeds.

After several years in the grain business the family moved back to Lee's Summit where Truman began work with the Lee's Summit School District in the maintenance department.  During his tenure with the district he was given the "Expect the Best" award given yearly to an exemplary employee.  After retirement at age 66, Truman and Janice moved back to Clinton where they built a home.  They loved camping and traveling and planned many wonderful trips mostly to Branson and Arizona.  Following Janice's death in 2012, Truman moved to Arizona and remained there until 2016 when health issues caused him to move back toward family in Missouri, living at the residential care facility in Appleton City.

Family always came first during Truman's life.  He was everyone's "Papa" and many called him Papa even though they weren't family.  He had many "Papa-isms" he was known for.  One he used often was, "Everyone is responsible for making themselves happy."  Truman's quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by family and friends alike.

Truman was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Janice.  Survivors include his daughters Pam Pulse and Paula Eden; his sister, Jane Costello; his grandchildren, Drew Diekmann, Allison Reed, Kathryn Pulse, Elizabeth Pulse, Alexander Eden and Austin Eden; 9 great-grandchildren; nephew, Paul Costello; and two nieces, Molly Stauffer and Tracy Lear.
