Obituary

The SERVICE for Mr. Barnes will be held at the Hume Christian Church in Hume, Missouri on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.


The MINISTER will be Justin Barnes .


INTERMENT will immediately follow the service in Underwood Cemetery, Hume, Missouri.


The family suggests any MEMORIAL donations be given to the Underwood Cemetery Association or a Charity of Your Choice .


Thomas Warren Barnes, 66, second child of Eustrus Edwin and Betty Louise (DeVinney) Barnes was born October 14, 1948. He passed away in Lee's Summit, Missouri on Monday, April 13, 2015.
Tom was born in a farm house in the state line community of N. W. Vernon County, Missouri. He grew up in the Hume, Missouri area and attended all 12 grades at Hume School, graduating in 1966.
In 1966 Tom moved to Kansas City, Missouri to attend a trade school. He got a job at Wolf Brothers Department store where he met Gladys Harrison. They were married on April 15, 1967 and to this union four children were born; David, Thomas, Jeffery and Jennifer.
In 1971 Tom joined the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. During his tenure with the police department, he served in three patrol divisions and the traffic division. In 1982 he left the police department and moved back to Hume where he owned and operated the Conoco service station until 1987. He went to work for Fuller Auto Parts in Butler, Missouri. When Fuller's sold to O'Reilly Auto Parts, Tom went to work for O'Reilly in 1989 and worked up to be store manager in 1994.
In 1990 Tom met Mary Galloway and they were married on June 17, 1990. Tom left O'Reilly in 2001 and went to work for the Bates County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher/jailer until going on disability in 2003.
Tom and Mary moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri in 2005 to be a caregiver for Mary's mother and be closer to their children, grandchildren and Tom's doctors.
In his spare time, Tom liked to fish, garden, mow the lawn, play cards, play computer games and travel.
Tom was preceded in death by an infant son, David Allen Barnes in 1968; his parents Eustrus and Betty Barnes; father-in-law and mother-in-law Allen and Clara Galloway; brothers-in-law Patrick Edward Sheehy and Johnathan Bruce Bredin; nephews Alan Chamlay and Jason West, and two previous wives.
Tom is survived by his wife Mary of the home; son Thomas Warren Barnes II and wife Denise (Ellisa, Kaitlin and Thomas III) Olathe, KS; son Jeffrey Barnes and wife Rosalie (Justin and Jessica) Olathe, KS; daughter Jennifer Morse and husband Mike (Eric, Magen and Brandon) Portland, OR; sister Mary Beth Sheehy, Fort Scott, KS; brother David Edwin Barnes and friend Harriet Cheek , Hume and Rich Hill, MO; sisters-in-law: Carolyn, Sylvia, Julia and Annetta; brothers-in-law Chester and Dean; numerous nieces and nephews who thought Uncle Tom was very special.
