The SERVICE for Shirley will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

The MINISTER officiating at the service will be Pastor Tony Reynolds.

VISITATION will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.

INURNMENT will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Rockville Cemetery, Rockville, Missouri.

The family suggests any MEMORIAL donations be made to the Appleton City Athletic Boosters or Ellett Memorial Hospital.  These may be left at the funeral home.

Shirley Jean Dukes, 70, the daughter of Clarence Hugh and Bessie Beatrice (Ring) Cooper, was born in Kansas City, Missouri October 22, 1945. She departed this life at Ellett Memorial Hospital June 12, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was united in marriage to William "Bill" Prater on November 30, 1963. They were blessed with two sons. After she and Bill divorced Shirley married Jackie "Jack" Dukes December 4, 1982. They made their home in Kansas City until Jack's retirement in 1991 when they moved to Rockville, Missouri. Shirley was a fulltime wife, mother and grandmother, devoting her entire life to nurturing those she loved and in return being loved and cared for by her many family members. She was always present in supporting her children and grandchildren's endeavors.

Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, Clarence and Bessie; her beloved husband, Jack; three siblings: Larry Cooper, Charlie Cooper and Alice Cooper; and one granddaughter, Jackie Dines.

Survivors include her children: Jimmy Prater, Mark Prater, Martin Dukes, Tammy Klein, Vicki Woodruff, Jacque Dines, Shauna Dukes, Jessica McClure and Jennifer Carr; her siblings: Carl Cooper, Bobby Cooper, Carol Cooper and Mary Layton; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Joe Carl, and his family that she loved as her own.
