Sharon Kay (Shoemaker) Sterling, age 76, was born June 12, 1943, the daughter of Burr Forest and Pearl Lorean (Casey) Shoemaker. She passed away peacefully on November 7, 2019 at Centrepoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri.
She spent her youth in the Rockville, Missouri area where she graduated from Appleton City High School in 1960. After completing her education, she met and married Gerald Sterling. To this union two children were born: Gary and Anthony. She worked as cafeteria staff at New Stanley Elementary School and then housekeeping staff at the Appleton City Manor for many years.
Her life was dedicated to being a caretaker of her entire family. She especially enjoyed large family gatherings, spending many happy hours with the people she loved most. One of her favorite activities was playing bingo, where she excelled as a progressive player, regularly outperforming her grandchildren. Along with this, Sharon dearly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, often frequenting bingo tournaments. Rarely was she seen without her favorite snacks of cherry or orange slices and a cold Dr. Pepper. She will be deeply missed by her many family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Sterling; her parents, Burr and Pearl Shoemaker; her uncle, Leo Shoemaker.
Sharon is survived by her two sons, Gary and wife Sandra and Anthony and wife Faith; 6 grandchildren: Nathan (Jennifer), Nicholas (Caitlyn), Nakayla, and Nachelle Sterling, Charity (Kevin) Coker, and Joel Sterling; 15 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family and good friends.
