Roy was raised on the family farm West of Rockville, Missouri. After graduating from Rockville High School in 1950, he helped out on the farm for a couple years, until he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. (along with his friend Melvin Ruehling) He made the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. After leaving the Army, Roy moved to Kansas City where he attended barber college. Having a garden every year was also important. He also loved his kitty-cats, which occupied a lot of his time after retirement.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law: Vernon and Della Yoss; and two nephews: Larry and Wayne Yoss.
He is survived by his wife Martha, only son Nicholas, one niece, Linda Heckadon, and his cats.
