Robert Anthony Bettels, son of Joseph and Rose (Kleinsorge) Bettels, was born August 29, 1932 in Germantown, Missouri. He passed away February 24, 2017 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home at 84 years of age.
Robert attended school as a youth in Germantown and helped on the family farm. He spent all of his life in the same home where he was born, except for the period of time spent between 1953 and 1955 serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After he returned home, Robert farmed and worked cattle as well as working for Clearfield Cheese Company. The company later changed hands becoming Schreiber Food, Inc. where he retired after 19 years of service. Robert and his sister, Florence, shared a home together for many years looking after one another and enjoying each other's company until her passing in 2009. He was currently a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose but had remained a faithful member of St. Ludger's Catholic Church in Germantown until its closing.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Rose Bettels; both of his sisters, Laura Fick and Florence Bettels; and one nephew Jerry Cook. He is survived by two nephews, Ted Cook of Overland Park, Kansas and Leon Cook of South Carolina.
