Paul Henry Hillerman, the son of Henry Bernard and Frances (Wittman) Hillerman was born on December 29, 1925 in Montrose, Missouri. On September 19, 2008 the Good Lord called Paul home while resting at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri where he was surrounded by loved ones. Paul fully lived his 82 years and brought great joy to all who knew him.
Paul was raised on the family farm and attended school in the Montrose and Germantown areas. In January of 1944, Paul was inducted into the United States Navy and served until May of 1946 when he was honorably discharged. While in the Navy, Paul served as Seaman 1ST Class on several vessels including the USS Stembel.
After discharge, Paul returned home to help his father on the family farm. He accepted a position with Peabody Coal Company where he began as a drill helper. Soon after, he began courting and on November 27, 1947 he married his wife and partner for life, JoAnn Putthoff. While with Peabody, they lived in several Midwest states raising their three boys. Paul and JoAnn eventually returned home to Montrose in 1966 where each of their boys graduated high school. In 1986, after forty years of service with Peabody, Paul retired as Manager of Exploration. After his retirement, Paul spent time on his land tending to his cattle operation and other various livestock. He enjoyed going to the sale barn and visiting with his good friends there. Paul treasured time spent with his family, admiring his purple martins and anytime outdoors.
Paul was steadfast in his faith, which was an important part of his life. Paul was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Virgil and Charles; two sisters, Loyola Gildehaus and Beatrice Hillerman. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of the home and their three sons: Donald of Harrisburg, Missouri, Robert of Columbia, Missouri, and James of Vinita, Oklahoma. Also surviving are three brothers, Clarence of Independence, Missouri, Bernard and Raymond, both of Washington, Missouri; two sisters, Rosina Ball and Esther Jasper, both of Washington, Missouri; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
