The SERVICE for Mr. Dunlap will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

The MINISTER will be Pastor David Hill.

VISITATION will be held between 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

MILITARY GRAVESIDE will be presented by the Appleton City VFW Post 11242 & MO Honor Guard.

INTERMENT will be in the Appleton City Cemetery.

The family suggests MEMORIAL donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Otis Leon Dunlap passed away peacefully at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, Missouri, on October 22, 2018.  The only son of Otis Edward and Audrey Mae (McGuire) Dunlap, he was born on November 25, 1933 in Drexel, Missouri.  He attended High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and later completed his GED.  Otis joined the United States Coast Guard in 1955, serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War until his retirement.   After the completion of his military career, he married Geneva Maxine Powell in 1985, his wife of nearly 15 years.

He was later employed as an aircraft mechanic and also airport manager in Butler, Missouri.  Otis was tremendously dedicated to his work and a patriot through and through.  He was incredibly talented with his hands and could fix anything.  Throughout his life Otis had many muscle cars that he delighted in.  Apart from this, the most important thing in his life was his family and friends, who he loved spending time with.  He enjoyed many evenings of conversation and refreshment at Short Street Tavern.  Everyone that knew Otis remembers how sweet and kind of a man Otis was, who never met a stranger and always helped anyone that needed it.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Otis Edward and Audrey Mae (McGuire) Dunlap; and his wife, Geneva; one sister, Rowena Joyce Ellis; a nephew, John M. Ellis, stepson, Gary L. Parks; and one grandson, John A. Parks.

Otis is survived by nephews, Joseph M. Ellis (Brenda) and James M. Ellis; niece, Patricia A. Ellis; stepsons, Kevin D. Gerstner and Todd T. Gerstner; stepdaughter, Suzan M. Parks; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Hoffman, Jason A. Parks (Joanne), Jesse Parks (Miranda), Jeston Parks (Jenn), Julie Parks, Cody Gerstner (Jessica), Whitney Gerstner, Chris Summers, Tobin Gerstner (Tara), and Tabitha Gerstner; along with many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.  He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.
