Naomi Josephine (Conrad) Marquardt was born December 5, 1916 in Appleton City, Missouri. She was Baptized January 21, 1917 and Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City. Naomi joined Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie City. She was united in marriage to Arnold E. Marquardt December 6, 1944 and to this union seven children were born. On July 4, 2010 she passed away in Appleton City.
Naomi was confident in her belief in God, ready to be with her Savior, and held firm to the hope of eternal life as promised by her risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith and family were her life's passion.
Naomi graduated from Appleton City High School in 1934 and worked for Schlichtman Hatchery in Appleton City and also as an assistant to Dr. Edith Salmon in the 1930's and 1940's. She and her sister Louise Wafel often sang duets in church during that period.
Arnold and Naomi enjoyed over 65 years of a happy and fulfilling life together. After living in California for a short period while Arnold completed his military service, they moved to Prairie City, Missouri where they made their home. Naomi was a homemaker and the mother of seven children. She and Arnold owned the Prairie City Cheese Company for over 30 years. Naomi was a member of the Ladies' Aid. She was also a 4-H leader and taught Sunday School for many years. She served as township committeewoman and often volunteered for the church. After raising her children and retiring, she and Arnold enjoyed spending winter months in the Texas valley. Naomi enjoyed being with her family, visiting, playing golf, spending time in her kitchen cooking, gardening, canning, watching baseball, golf, and football, and fishing for trout at Bennett Springs. Naomi was a very compassionate person who was often more concerned about others than herself.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Albert and Louise (Hurdelbrink) Conrad, sister and brother-in-law Louise and Oscar Wafel, brothers-in-law Everett Bauer, Norman Rapp, and brother-in-law Adolph and sister-in-law Josephine Marquardt. She is survived by her husband Arnold and children Donna and Michael Scholtes of Raymore, Missouri; Deanna and Dale Andersen of De Soto, Kansas; Deborah and Jon Hoehne, St. Louis, Missouri; John Marquardt of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Mary and Lynn Shoemaker of Yuma, Arizona; Marsha and Wesley Tippie of Harrisonville, Missouri; and Melissa and Timothy Payne of Leavenworth, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Laura Rapp and Elda Bauer of Appleton City and many nephews, nieces and friends.
