A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Mildred will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2019 at Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Missouri.
The MINISTER will be Jerry Johannigmeier.
The family suggest any MEMORIAL donations go to Appleton City Manor Nursing Home.
Mildred Gaile (Downer) Meek, 97 years old, of Clinton, Missouri, passed away October 25, 2019 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home. Mildred was born on November 22, 1921 to Ernest Alfred and Courtney Gaile (Thralls) Downer in the family home southeast of Appleton City, Missouri.
Mildred graduated from Appleton City High School and then moved to Kansas City with her cousin. During her stay in Kansas City she worked for a short period of time as a nanny before doing medical transcription at Research Hospital. Mildred moved back to Appleton City where she found her passion as a telephone operator with United Telephone System. She traveled from Appleton City to Clinton and later to Newton, Iowa. Mildred was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and Clinton Church of the Nazarene.
Mildred met Jack Brussell Meek over the phone line as he made many calls for his job as an agent telegrapher with the railroad. They were married July 16, 1948 and at this time Mildred was blessed with four step-children, Barbara, Ann, Niles and Janene. Mildred and Jack had one son from their union, Daryll Vincent Meek, born August 14, 1954. She was always proud of her son and loved visiting with him and her grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Helen Downer, a nephew, Darwin Downer, many other family members and friends.
Mildred is survived by her son, Daryll Meek, granddaughters, Venisa and Kira Meek and six great-grandchidlren: Dalton Wesley, Jocyln Maggie Gaile, Vincent Issac, Lily Nisa, Quin Risa and Noah Leadin.
