Appleton City, Missouri on
Saturday, June 7, 2014 between
5:00 and 7:00 p.m.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be held at
Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery in
Chanute, Kansas on
Sunday, June 8, 2014 at
3:00 p.m.

The MINISTER will be
Pastor Steve Altheide.

The family suggests MEMORIAL donations be given to The
American Cancer Society.

Marilyn Mae (Brooks) Munger, 62, daughter of Loren Henry and Hazel Viola (Lowe) Brooks was born July 15, 1951 in Leanna Township outside of Chanute, Kansas. She passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in Appleton City, Missouri.

Marilyn was born on the family farm during the "Great Flood of '51" because all the roads were flooded and they couldn't get to the hospital. Rumor had it her parents found her floating down the river. She attended school at Fairfield Elementary, Royster Junior High and Chanute Senior High. In 1982, she graduated from Neosho County Community College with an Associate degree in Accounting.

In January, 1995, Marilyn moved with her husband, Jim Munger, to a farm outside of Deepwater, Missouri, later moving to Appleton City, Missouri where she spent her final 7 years. Marilyn was a member of Ohio Christian Church where she was baptized in 2005.

Marilyn worked as a Pharmaceutical Technician for over 30 years; the last 20 years spent at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. She was a longtime member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Chanute, Kansas.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents in 1999, her husband, Jim, in 2009, and brother-in-law, Walt Sturgeon.

Survivors include her sons, Richard VanWinkle (Sally Jo), Colorado Springs, Colorado, David VanWinkle (Tonya), RAF Mildenhall, UK; daughter, Rebecca Lind (Jim), Edgerton, Kansas; brothers, Merle Brooks (Imogene), Chanute, Kansas, and Joe Brooks, Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Sharon Matlock (Herb), Erie, Kansas and Sandra Sturgeon, Inman, Kansas and 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Kristjan, Ashlynn, Brier, Mikey, Mabel Mae, and Ricky.

Marilyn enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, and road trips. She was proud of her "world famous" strawberry patch and was well known for her pies. Her favorite pastime was baking with her grandchildren and sitting on her porch watching the prairie chickens. Her family was the main focus of her life.
