Magdalene Mary Swaters, daughter of Barnard and Willomene Minnie E. (Cook) Bettels, was born February 21, 1908 in Germantown, Missouri. She passed away April 6, 2008 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri at 100 years of age.
Magdalene spent her early life in Germantown later working as a nurse's aid at St. Joseph Hospital on Linwood Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri for six years. She married her husband of 55 years, Bernard Swaters, February 25, 1935 at Visitation Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They began their life together on a farm south of Montrose, Missouri remaining there until moving to Montrose after retirement. Mrs. Swaters was a good gardener and enjoyed tending her flowers. She liked to quilt and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Magdalene was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter Cheryl Swaters, two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by four children, Joan Gieselman of Clinton, Missouri, Robert Swaters of Flippin, Arkansas, Arlene Holmes of Stilwell, Kansas and James Swaters of Montrose, Missouri, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
