Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
INTERMENT will be in the Appleton City Cemetery in Appleton City, Missouri.
The family suggests that MEMORIALS can be made to Appleton City Cemetery or The Alzheimer's Association.
Lois Jean (Culbertson) VanBuskirk, daughter of Hershell Albert and Essie Faye (Nichols) Culbertson was born in Ohio, Missouri on Monday, December 29, 1930. She departed this life Monday, January 27, 2014 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri at 83 years of age.
On September 16, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Edmond Eugene VanBuskirk in Fort Scott, Kansas. They began their life together in the Ohio/Harmony community east of Appleton City. In 1950 they moved to the Round Prairie community and resided there until 1969 when they moved to the Mt. Hope community. They later moved to Appleton City, Missouri.
Lois and Edmond were very active in the Missouri foster care program for many years. They opened their home to many foster children and provided them with love and guidance. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Appleton City where she taught children's Sunday school and participated in many other youth activities
Lois was a cosmetologist and operated LoVan's Beauty Nook for over 35 years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edmond on November 28, 2007.
Survivors include her children: Shirley and husband Michael Gwin of Romayor, Texas, Linda and husband Steve Saia of Joplin, Missouri and Terry VanBuskirk of Appleton City, Missouri; grandchildren: Shawn Gwin, Amy (Gwin) Smith, Matthew Dutton, Lindsay (Dutton) Altheide, Jeremy VanBuskirk, Corey VanBuskirk, and Jared VanBuskirk; several great-grandchildren; brother Leon Culbertson and wife Anna of Livingston, Texas; also many relatives and friends.
