Leola O. Wooden, daughter of Bert and Elsie Grace (Gilmore) Swift, was born September 17, 1918 in Robinson Township, Hiawatha, Kansas. She passed away June 12, 2009 at the age of 90.
Leola was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Wooden in March of 1955. To this union one son was born, Jimmy Wooden. Leola lived in the Kansas City area for many years. She spent most of her life in Shell Knob even though Kenny's work caused them to move often. For several years Leola served as Chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge in Shell Knob. Leola was a homemaker. She loved quilting but more than anything else she loved to fish. She always complained that when the fish were biting in the evening she had to quit to cook.
Leola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenny, three brothers: Dean, Bert and Merwin Swift; a sister Velma Brown; one grandson, Kenny Wayne Mezzacasa and one great grandchild, Christina Dalton. Survivors include her daughter Betty Joanne Dalton and husband Elvin of Kansas City, Missouri; son Kenneth Mezzacasa and wife Elaine of Oak Grove, Missouri; sons Rick Mezzacasa of Independence, Missouri and Jimmy Wooden of Shell Knob, Missouri; one sister Shirley Prater of Lee's Summit, Missouri and a sister-in-law, Rosella Swift of Lee's Summit, Missouri; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
