Leo Stephan was born July 12, 1918 at a country home in Ohio, Missouri to John and Bessie Stephan. He attended Ohio school – Maude Long was his favorite teacher. He worked with his dad on the farm as a young man, and graded roads for the County. He liked to help other farmers. He packed the mail on horseback from Ohio to Monegaw. Later he moved to town and worked at Schlichtman's Hatchery and then went into partnership with Harry Schlichtman on the farm.
He met Irma Hearting November 17, 1948 and November 17, 1950 they were married. To this union four children were born: Robert, Nancy, William and Dianna. Leo was a wonderful husband and a great dad. For many years he drove a fuel truck starting with Skelly Oil, then working 17 years for Standard Oil and finally with Empire Gas. He loved his family very much. He showed horses and loved to ride horses with his children. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Stephan, and sisters Irene Lewellen and Loree Gilkey. He is survived by his wife Irma Stephan, sons Robert and William Stephan, daughters Nancy and Dianna Stephan, two grandsons Justin and Derek Stephan, nieces and nephews.
