Frances Leanna Fischer was born March 12, 1929 to John Emmett Wood and Anna Finklang Wood in Rockville, Missouri. She attended school in Rockville and graduated from high school there in 1947. On January 11, 1950 she married Roy Martin and they lived in Kansas City for a while before returning to Rockville. Through the years she worked at Mott's Locker, the Post Office and owned her own grocery store. Until 1967 she attended the Methodist Church in Rockville when she and Roy joined Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City where they were members when Roy died in 1977. On January 3, 1979 she married Donald Fischer and she began a new life by moving to the country and becoming a farmer's wife.

She loved gardening and sharing the produce of her and Donald's work with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed taking rides and seeing the wildlife especially deer, turkeys and occasionally an eagle. But most of all, she enjoyed children, being like an aunt, mother, grandmother or friend to any child she was around. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended even when her health was failing. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and dearly loved going to the meetings with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother J.E. Wood and his wife Fannie and a brother-in-law June Gragg. She is survived by her loving husband Donald of the home and her sister whom she dearly loved, Marlyne "Tommy" Gragg, of Rockville. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Ruth Rapp of Appleton City, Missouri, a sister-in-law Verna Smith and husband Edson of Ventura, California and brother-in-law Junior Fischer and wife Charlotte of Vincennes, Indiana. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and a great host of neighbors and good friends.
