The SERVICE for Mr. Lahyer will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Monday, August, 24 2015 at 11:00 a.m.

The VISITATION will be held an hour preceding the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The MINISTER will be Reverend Ron Beaton .

INTERMENT will be in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

The family requests any MEMORIAL contributions be made to the Rockville Methodist Church.


Lawrence L. Layher, of Rockville, MO passed away peacefully August 14, 2015 at Butler Medicalodge reaching 90 years of age. Lawrence was born in the home of his parents, Clarence and Mae (Ridgeway) Layher February 4, 1925 on their farm outside of Rockville.

Early in life Mr. Layher attended Elm Grove Grade School, then studied for two years at Rockville High School, and finally graduated from Appleton City High School in 1943. He married his first wife, Mary Wix in 1945 and to this union one daughter, Linda Jo, was born. Mr. Layher then remarried in 1973 to Wanda Mae Carroll, the love of his life.

Lawrence spent most of his days in the Rockville area where he worked in agriculture and husbandry. Apart from toiling among row crops and livestock, Lawrence passed many happy times hunting or fishing on his farm, playing pitch with friends, enjoying the Rockville Festival, and participating in the activities of the Lions Club. He further served his community, dutifully, on the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department and Cemetery Board for many decades.

Mr. Layher entered into a close relationship with Christ following his baptism in "Midkiff Lake," just east of Rockville. Until suffering a stroke three years ago, Lawrence farmed into his eighty-seventh year, but always took time to serve his community and enjoy good times with his friends and family.

Mr. Layher was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Loucille Smith; one infant sister, Lois; and one infant daughter, Phillis An. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; sister, Mildred Atz; daughter Linda (Dave) Middleton; step sons, Mike Powell (Dorothy), and Jim Burrow (Clarice); step daughter Carol (Bruce) Daulton; 8 grandchildren and 7 step grandchildren; as well as many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and Lawrence was a good grandpa to all of them. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
