Joyce E. Smith born November 10, 1932 passed away July 31, 2014. She was the mother of David L. Smith and Kathryn R. Trapp, grandmother of Josh Blackburn, Alyssa Smith, and Ayden Smith, and also a strong mother figure to many foster children and really anyone that showed up to her door needing help.
Joyce lived most of her life in Montrose, leaving a few times but always coming back home. She eventually bought a house in Montrose that was her last residence for the past forty plus years. In her earlier years she enjoyed hunting, fishing, and also had a great passion for fast cars. At one point in her life she owned a new car every year. Later on in Joyce's life she put her main focus on running her own business and raising her children. Some of her businesses to list a few were in home health care, registered dog breeding, and dog grooming.
She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine Putthoff and her father Butch Putthoff, also by her younger brother Jim Putthoff. She is survived by her two children, David L. Smith and Kathryn R. Trapp; three grandchildren, Josh Blackburn, Alyssa Smith and Ayden Smith; two sisters, JoAnn Hillerman and Betty McKee; and one brother Bill Putthoff.
Joyce was a big hearted and very strong woman that many looked up to, and with her, knew they always had a shoulder to lean on. Few words can describe what a great woman Joyce was, and the huge mark she left on this world for a lot of us.
