John David Grant, son of Ernest Edward and Ethel Naomi (Greathouse) Grant, was born on June 11, 1928 in Topeka, Kansas. He passed away at his residence in Lowry City, Missouri on September 2, 2008 at the age of 80 years.
John left Topeka to join the Merchant Marines in 1944 where he served his country during World War II on Lousan Island in the Philippines. Following his duty in the service he returned to Freeman, Missouri where he lived for 30 years and worked in heavy construction for 30 years and served in Local Union 663 in Kansas City, Missouri.
John was a member of the Nazarene Church in Topeka, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Vonnie Forshee on June 30, 1956. To this union four children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ann Thornburg and Naomi Austin. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Vonnie Grant of Lowry City, two daughters, Ida Mae Mulvey of Cape Canaveral, Florida and Terry Lynn Peoples of Mansfield, Oklahoma; two sons, Michael Grant and Phillip Wayne Grant both of Lowry City, Missouri; one brother Ira E. Grant of Topeka, Kansas; one sister Celestia Reeves of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
John enjoyed antiquing, country music and playing cards with his friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
