Joan Louise Waters, 76, daughter of Garland Theodore and Louise (Hays) Waters, was born March 25, 1935 in St. Clair County near Taberville, Missouri. She attended Rich Valley School, a one room grade school, and Rockville High School for two years until its closing then later graduated from Appleton City High School.

Joan moved to Kansas City where she worked briefly for the phone company then was employed by BMA, Business Men's Assurance Company, for several years before returning to the family farm to care for her parents whose health was failing. Joan spent the remaining years of her life there on the farm. She loved to fish, especially for bass. She also enjoyed quilting and reading as well. After her health began to decline she liked watching westerns and baseball games on television. On July 4, 2011 Joan peacefully departed this life at her home of 38 years surrounded by loving family members. This past May Joan had made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ to Pastor Sam Masten, which also pleased her family.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents and one sister, Betty Dell Hutchins. Survivors include one sister, Leila Mae and husband Marion Bock of Appleton City, Missouri; two nephews, Dennis Bock and wife Wanda and Dale Bock and wife Gayle all of Appleton City; five nieces, Bonnie Perrymann of Butler, Missouri, Barbara Belew of Appleton City, Wanda and husband Brant Barley of Mindenmines, Missouri, Lisa Koshko of Columbia, Missouri, and Teddi and husband Mike Handley of Rockville, Missouri; 14 great-nieces and nephews and six great-great-nieces and nephews; other cousins and relatives.
