A celebration of Joan's life will take place in Medicine Lodge, Kansas during the later part of May 2012, with inurnment at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge.

Joan Margurite Hansen, age 83, passed away on April 7, 2012 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home. Joan was born March 22, 1929 in Mantor, Kansas to the late Albert and Della Mott. She was preceded in death by husbands, Donald Jerry Martin and Harry Albert Hansen, her parents, both brothers, Edward and Jack, one sister, Naomi and two grandsons, David Bollig and Zach Hansen.

She is survived by her children Janice and her husband Bruce Meier of Shirley, Arkansas, Mike and his wife Wendy Martin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jane and her husband Jess Hamm of Rogers, Arkansas, Mary and her husband Arthur Grina of Clayton, New Mexico, Joni and her husband Ron Bollig of Appleton City, Missouri and Ronald Hansen of Adona, Arkansas. Joan also leaves behind four surviving sisters, Genevieve Crowell of Hockessin, Delaware, Daisy Douthett of Topeka, Kansas, Winnie Babb of Galax, Virginia and Della Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joan also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Joan was raised in Medicine Lodge, Kansas on her family farm. She often told her children, "Growing up during the Great Depression was not so bad because we had more than most." She was the seventh child in a family of eight children. Joan married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Martin on May 14, 1947. Their union was blessed with five children. They divorced on June 12, 1965. Joan married Harry Hansen on April 28, 1967. Their union brought the adoption of Ronald Hansen.

Joan worked a myriad of jobs to support her family from motel desk clerk to being a very talented secretary. Her life was lived in Kansas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Missouri. She was a talented pianist and an awesome Avon Lady. She will be missed by all who knew her.
