Jerral Cecil "Jay" Hobbs, 74, son of Jerry and Agnes Arena (Johnson) Hobbs, was born July 2, 1933 in Pensacola, Florida. He passed away September 26, 2007 after a lengthy stay of 85 days at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri and a valiant battle to regain his health.
Jay's family moved to National City, California while he was young, remaining there for several years. In 1979 he moved to Missouri. On February 14, 1987 Jay and Margie Rhoades were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He worked as a dry wall hanger for 45 years. Jay and Margie had made their home in Montrose, Missouri for 12 years and had attended the United Presbyterian-Methodist Church.
Jay loved the outdoors. He liked fishing and hunting and always planted a big garden. He was especially proud of his seven foot tomato plants and huge blackberries. He was generous with his produce sharing vegetables with all his friends. Jay also enjoyed barbequing and football.
Preceding Jay in death were his parents, two brothers, Joe Tom Hobbs and William Gary Hobbs and a sister, Lorene Calejio. Survivors include his wife, Margie, of the home; two sons, Kurt Hobbs of Montrose, Missouri and Jason Hobbs of Harrisonville, Missouri; one daughter, Gari Dierking of Las Vegas, Nevada; three brothers, Leon Hobbs of Kelso, Washington, John Hobbs and Ronald Hobbs both of San Diego, California; two sisters, Betty Hobbs of Appleton City, Missouri and Marlene Garcia of Alabama; four grandchildren, Kurt Hobbs, Alyssa Graham, Samantha Hobbs and Herb Dierking; four stepsons, Donald Rhoades of Lowry City, Missouri, Harley Rhoades of Warsaw, Missouri, Tim Rhoades of Lowry City, Missouri and Perry Rhoades of Harrisonville, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Timmy, Donna and Lisa Rhoades; and one step-great-granddaughter, Haley Ann Rhoades.
