James Donald Gengler, son of George Fredrick and Helen Ann (Swaters) Gengler, was born September 28, 1937 in Cawker City, Kansas. He departed this life very suddenly at his home near Appleton City, Missouri April 22, 2009 at 71 years of age.

Jim's family moved to Missouri when he was young and he graduated from Montrose High School. He attended Rockhurst College for two years before enlisting in the Army. During his time in the service he was stationed in Germany. Jim and Kathleen A. Kalwei were united in marriage May 26, 1962 and six children were born to this union. Following his time in the Army Jim worked for Kansas City Power & Light Company as a mechanic until his retirement. Jim obtained his pilot's license at the age of 50 and liked flying just for the pure joy it brought him.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; two infant daughters, Mary Beth and Patricia Gengler; and a brother-in-law Cecil Cook. Survivors include his wife Kathy of the home; four children, David Gengler and wife Kristi, Karen and husband Phillip Landers, Michael Gengler and wife Tracey, Katherine and husband Jeff Long; twelve grandchildren, Lucas, Brett and Scott Gengler, Benjamin, Brian and Emily Landers, Jacob, Kylee and Raef Gengler, Jenna, Kyle and Peyton Long; three sisters, Elizabeth and husband John Rotert, Alice Cook and Ann and husband Ernie Strum.

Jim's family was a delight and the pride of his life. His perfect day would include an early morning turkey hunt followed by gardening and working with his flowers, then maybe building a few blue-bird houses. One of the last things Jim would have done on his perfect day was to gather all dozen of his grandkids and play in the creek. His day would have ended sitting in the swing with Kathy enjoying a glass of his "famous" home-made wine, planning their next trip and enjoying the beauty of home and family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
