INTERMENT will be in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri

James E. Allen passed away in Kansas City, Missouri on September 11, 2018 at the age of 90.

He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 31, 1928 to Ray O. and Olga V. Allen.  His birth was announced back in Missouri on the back of a cancelled check which Ray sent to Olga's parents.  He attended school in Appleton City, graduating at the top of his class.

After completing two years of Army service, he married Marylu Pratt on December 10, 1952.  They remained lifelong best friends.  Three daughters were born to this union.

Jim was a faithful member of the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Grand River Parish up until his passing.

His work life consisted of jobs including the W.T. Raleigh Co., a long career as a manager of the meat department at Yoss Grocery, and raising cattle.

Simple pleasures made him happy.  Some of those things included strong coffee, his feet propped up on a blazing Round Oak stove, and whistling.  He truly enjoyed sharing his sense of humor in the fellowship of family and friends.

He was a good "shepherd" of his own children as well as many others.  He cared greatly about the well-being of his livestock: even sheep which he felt were the "stupidest animals on the face of the earth" based on encounters from his early farming days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marylu, in 2012 as well as his parents, in-laws, L.C. and Augusta Pratt, and one special uncle, Fred McGauthey.

He is survived by his daughters:  Michelle Irby and husband Gordon, Cecile "Sam" Allen, and Jennifer Boden and husband Ed.  Also surviving are three step-grandsons, one step-granddaughter, four step-great-grandsons, and four great-step-granddaughters.

All who knew Jim and were his friends will miss his gentle smile, wit, and twinkling eyes.
