James Robert "Bob" Aydelotte was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on January 10, 1918, the son of James B. and Gertrude Aydelotte. He attended public schools there and graduated from the University of Kansas with honors in 1939. While at Fort Scott Jr. College, he had met Virginia Schryver, of Appleton City, MO, and they were married in 1940. He was employed by the General Electric Co. in their Business Training Program before entering the Army in World War II. In service, he served in Anti-Aircraft and Ordnance, and as a Captain in the Army Reserve.

After service, he spent a year with Armstrong Cork Co. as Controller of their Spanish subsidiary in Seville, Spain. He, then, returned to work for the General Electric Co. and progressed in financial areas for fifteen years. Later, he served as financial executive and Director of various international manufacturing and engineering companies. He retired in 1978 to live on Nantucket Island.

He was active in community and Church organizations in the many communities where he and his family lived. He was a member of the Financial Executives Institute, Treasurer's Club of Boston, the United States Tennis Association, Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Fraternity, the Newcomen Society of the U.S., and the K.U. Alumni Association.

In 1985, he and Virginia moved to Appleton City, MO, where he served as mayor for two terms. He was also a Director of the Citizens Bank of Appleton City, a member of the Optimists Club, and Appleton City Community Club. He was Director and President of Appleton City Landmarks Restoration, Inc, which restored the M.K. & T. Railroad Depot and the original 1870 Library, originally funded by W. H. Appleton, and which are now the Appleton City Historic District.

These last accomplishments were the source of particular satisfaction for both Bob and Virginia, who felt that a sense of the history of a place was something that tied a community together. Knowing that their interest in area history was being carried on and would be a source of pride for Appleton City gave great pleasure to Bob and to Virginia.

He is survived by sons James E. and Kevin R. Aydelotte, their wives Holly and Janell, and grandson James C. Aydelotte; and by nephews David Lampton and Richard Aydelotte, and nieces Susan Hutchens, Deborah Hillyer, and Elizabeth Cation.

It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Appleton City Landmarks, Inc, Appleton City Cemetery Association, or Trinity United Methodist Church of Appleton City.
