Leo Jack Reed was born October 3, 1918 in Osceola, Missouri and passed away October 14, 2009 at Ellet Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri. He was the third of nine children born to James M. and Bessie E. (Bledsoe) Reed. He attended grade school in St. Clair and Bates Counties.
Jack accepted Christ as his Savior and joined the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in 1940. In 1982 he joined the First Christian Church in Appleton City.
Jack and Nora Mae Bruce were married March 17, 1945. They lived north of Rockville until 1955 when they purchased their farm west of Appleton City. Jack farmed and milked a small herd of Jersey cows. In 1963 they purchased their first Polled Hereford cows.
Jack served on the Board of Producers Creamery Company for the El Dorado Springs Plant, Hudson R-9 School Board, as an Elder of his church, and the Bates County Extension Council.
He took great joy in being a part of Hudson Hustlers 4-H Club for over 40 years.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nora Mae, and four brothers, Earnest, Herman, Bill and James. He is survived by his daughter Joyce and husband Tom Hollis of Appleton City, his sisters, Dorothy and husband Adolph Roberts of Independence, Missouri, Marguerite and husband Gordon Hilgus of Richland, Washington, and his brothers Earl and wife Candy of Fremont, California and Dr. Glen Reed of Appleton City, Missouri.
