Imojeanne Marcellin Lawson, 81, passed away September 15, 2010 at her home in Montrose, Missouri. She was born January 27, 1929 in Fresno, California, the daughter of Winfield and Mary Turgon Elrod. She was the daughter of migrant farmers and moved numerous times throughout the years until they finally settled in Bates County, Missouri.
She was united in marriage to John Leslie Lawson on February 25, 1949 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City, Missouri. To this union five children were born.
Imojeanne was a member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, Appleton City, Missouri. She was the first woman elder at Pleasant Ridge. She was a Grand River Parish Council member for several years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School through the years.
Imojeanne was employed by the Grand River Parish for 19 years in Urich, Missouri and was part time secretary for Interchurch Coordinating Council in Clinton, Missouri.
Imojeanne drove students to Head Start and to the Grand River Parish Preschool. She wrote news items for Montrose Tidings-Urich Herald newspaper and was employed by Memory Quilts and Wetzel's Clinic.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Appleton City, Missouri. Imojeanne, along with her husband John, enjoyed square dancing. They were members of the Apple Dumplings Square Dance Club of Appleton City, Missouri. She was a member of Montrose Community Betterment Club and a 4-H leader. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Imojeanne enjoyed listening to music especially Lawrence Welk and Celtic Women.
Imojeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Julian and Virgil and three sisters Mary, Agnes and Dortha.
She is survived by two daughters Susan Cummings and Patricia Kalwei and husband Anthony; three sons, J. Steven Lawson and wife JoAnn, Michael Lawson and Rhonda all of Montrose, Missouri, and Robert Lawson and wife Susan of Schell City, Missouri; one brother, Theodore Elrod and wife Bertie of Prairie Village, Kansas; three grandchildren, Daniel Cummings and wife Yea of Spruce, Missouri, Denise Bailey of Springfield, Missouri and Cameron Lawson of Schell City, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Ray and Aimee Cummings and Madalene Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
