The FUNERAL SERVICE for Mrs. Helwig will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at
2:00 p.m.
MINISTER for the service will be Pastor Ron Beaton.
VISITATION will be at Hill and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. preceding service.
The family suggests MEMORIAL contributions may be made to American Cancer Association.
Hester Williams Helwig, daughter of Claude Denver and Audrey (Villines) Williams was born December 26, 1929 in Jasper, Arkansas. She passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Butler, Missouri. She was 85.
Hester was united in marriage to Verne Eugene Thompson on December 14, 1945. They were blessed with three children, Gary, Sharon and Tom. After Verne's death on April 13, 1966, Hester was married to Lyle Helwig.
Hester worked at Constable Book Bindery in Kansas City. She also worked as an X-ray technician for Swickard Chiropractic in North Kansas City and McMullen Chiropractic.
Hester was a very active lady who loved mountain biking, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling with Lyle in Colorado, and bowling. She was an avid fisherman and master gardener with over 100 varieties of flowers in her garden, which she was very proud of. She enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Germany to visit family. She was also active in many community clubs and enjoyed helping with their various activities.
Hester was preceded in death by her parents; husband Verne Thompson; son Gary Thompson; son-in-law Dennis G. "Gus" Jones; grandson Brian T. Jones; brother Lester Williams and sister Betty Renshaw.
She is survived by husband Lyle Helwig; daughter Sharon Jones; son Tom Thompson (Terri); daughter-in-law Patty Thompson; grandchildren: Adam Thompson (Samantha), Christin Black (Ryan), Kyle Thompson (Jennie), Lisa Leonard (Scotty), Kelly Darr (Billy), Twila Kidwell (Jim), and Shannon Branham (Dave), 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; step-sons David Helwig and Gary Helwig; sister Maxine Sholes; brothers John Williams (Mary) and Glen Williams (Marie).
Hester always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends.
