Henry Clifford Miller, Sr., son of Johnathan Cornealus and Goldie Leona (Allen) Miller was born June 18, 1924 in Ballard, Missouri. He peacefully departed this life at his home near Appleton City, Missouri March 5, 2010 at 85 years of age.
Clifford lived in the Montrose, Appleton City, Missouri area all his life except for the time he spent serving his country in the United States Air Force. He spent part of his enlistment during World War II in Burma.
Clifford was quite an accomplished musician. He played the banjo for his first square dance at the age of six. He continued to play and was quite well known as one of the best guitar pickers in the area. He never learned to read music but had the God given talent of learning songs "by ear" and being able to play and remember them easily. He also composed and wrote songs; his best known is entitled "A Boogie" which is still played by a number of other guitar pickers.
Growing up Clifford was fondly referred to as "Sprout" by his dad and "Sonny" by his mother. Many of his close friends and neighbors still call him by those names. Clifford and Dorothy Mae Vickers were married 45 years before she passed away. During that time they were blessed with six children. He worked as a mechanic at Wells and Irvin Chevrolet in Montrose for many years. Clifford was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and farming. Somehow he always caught the biggest fish. He also loved to spend time with his family.
Some time after his first wife, Dorothy's passing, Clifford married Coralee Wilson April 8, 1995 in Competition, Missouri. They combined their families at that joyous union with all sharing in their newfound happiness. During the early 1990's Clifford accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, joining the fellowship of Adrian Christian Church where he has remained a faithful member. He was also a member of the Montrose VFW Post 8820 and the American Legion in Osceola, Missouri.
Preceding Clifford in death was his first wife Dorothy; two daughters, Judith Ann Miller and Mary Patricia Anderson; two brothers, Art Allen and Jack Miller; three sisters, Katherine McClure, Joye Haley and Alta Dessie Dines. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Coralee of the home; his children Charlie Anderson, Chris and husband Ron Souza all of Appleton City, Cliff Miller, Jr. and Patti McShane of Sacramento, California, Bob Miller and wife Debbie of Collins, Missouri, Elaine and husband Mike Moore of Urich, Missouri, Randy Stewart and William Haldeman both of Joplin, Missouri, Melinda Stewart and Douglas Haledman both of St. Charles, Missouri; one sister, Georgia McClure of Appleton City; one brother-in-law, Charles Wilson of Appleton City; and numerous grandchildren.
