The funeral SERVICE for Mrs. Sumstine will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, August 10, 2020 at Hill & Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

VISITATION will preceded the service from 11:00 a.m. until Noon.

The MINISTER will be Pastor David Hill.

BURIAL will be in Appleton City Cemetery.

The family requests any MEMORIAL donations be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc at azl.org or left at the funeral home.

Hazel Marie Sumstine, 90, was born March 28, 1930 to Arthur Olen Deller and Anna Bell (Dotson) Deller in Bushong, Kansas.  She departed this life August 5, 2020 at Homestead Assisted Living and Memory Care of Overland Park in Kansas.

She married Harold Earl Sumstine on November20, 1948 in Dwight, Kansas and they were married for 68 years before Harold's death August 1, 2016.  They were blessed with five children.  She worked for Kmart and retired after 27 years.   Then moving to Stover, Missouri where she enjoyed the wildlife and nature.  She loved to travel researching genealogy of their family history.  Hazel was an artist of various mediums, including painting, ceramics, stitching, floral arrangements and decorating, just to name a few.  She played the organ and if she wasn't talking or singing, she was always whistling.  She also enjoyed watching sports,  the Chiefs and Royals were their favorite teams.

Preceding Hazel in death were her parents: her five sisters and two brothers; her husband, Harold Earl Sumstine; one son, William Wayne Sumstine; and one grandson, John Paul Van Goethem.  Hazel was a loving mother to five children: Cheryl A. (David) Van Goethem of Stillwell, Ks., Harold E. (Patty) Sumstine of Overland Park, Ks., Arthur L. (Jeanne) Sumstine of Olathe, Ks., Kevin D. (Cindy) Sumstine of San Clemente, CA., and William W. Sumstine (deceased).  Hazel was proud of her thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.   We will always remember her warm, vivacious and very welcoming nature.
