Hazel Louise Padley Mock, 98, died Friday, May 18, 2012 in Appleton City, Missouri. She was born on September 24, 1913 to Harry and Gracie Wix Padley, on the family farm in Bates County, Missouri.

In 1931 she met Thomas Mock and they were married on March 6, 1935 in Joplin, Missouri. Shortly after their marriage they bought the Clark Wix Farm on Highway 52 where they lived until moving to Appleton City in 1986. To this union four children were born: Mary Lou Tuter, Arleta Howard, John Mock and Wanda Batschelett.

Hazel enjoyed playing the piano and played for church services throughout her life. When they moved to Appleton City she played for the church services at RCF and was still playing the piano just a few months ago at the nursing home.

She was baptized at an early age at the Pleasant Gap Christian Church, later moving her membership to the Appleton City Christian Church where she was active until her health failed.

In July 2005 she sold her home and moved to RCF in Appleton City. She enjoyed her time there and had many friends. She moved to the Appleton City Manor in April, 2011.

Hazel was happiest when she was with family and enjoyed telling stories of her growing up years. Her mind never failed and family was blessed to always count on her when they needed information from past years. For over 75 years, Hazel contributed news items from the Pleasant Ridge Community to the Appleton City Journal.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1994, her parents, two brothers Louis and Joseph Padley, a son-in-law Poley Howard and a great-grandson Christopher Misner. She is survived by her children: Mary Lou and James Tuter of Lowry City, Missouri, Arleta Howard of Independence, Missouri, John and Trudy Mock of Omaha, Nebraska and Wanda and Roy Batschelett of Clinton, Missouri; also 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren plus nieces, nephews and lots of friends.
