The FUNERAL SERVICE for Mr. Harvey will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
The MINISTER will be Pastor Tony Reynolds.
VISITATION will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to service.
INTERMENT will be in Myers Cemetery, rural Appleton City, Missouri.
The family suggests MEMORIAL contributions may be made to
Hudson Hustlers 4-H.
Harley William Harvey, son of Lemuel W. and Juanita Ramona (Stanley) Harvey was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 21, 1940. He passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 in Appleton City, Missouri at 73 years of age.
Harley lived most of his life in Kansas City, Kansas. He worked in a feed store when he was 11 years old. In 1959 he began driving a dump truck. In 1968 he bought his favorite dump truck named "Stinky" from a company that hauled hog carcasses. He used it to haul sand. In 1969 he began demolishing buildings. He owned and operated Harvey Brothers Trucking & Wrecking until retiring in 2002. He made sure all of his kids and grandkids had no excuse for not finding a job. There was always something that needed to be fixed at the shop.
His hobby was being a race car driver on the dirt tracks at Riverside and Lakeside in Kansas City until the early 1980s. He moved to Appleton City in 1991 where he bought Varn's place and raised and bred Brangus cattle. He enjoyed raising cattle, but had to give it up due to back problems. He started refurbishing a 1940 dump truck as well as a 1925 Chevy Touring Sedan which he won many 1st places and best of show.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Gloria Tindle, his loving companion of 13 years, of the home; daughter, Lynn McGinnis (Bryan), Paola, Kansas; sons: Joe Harvey, Sr. (Donna), Shawnee, Kansas, Tim Harvey (Angela) of Kansas City, Kansas, Dan Harvey (Georgia) Olathe, Kansas, and Harley Harvey, Jr., Independence, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with 2 more soon to be born; brothers: Larry Harvey (Barbara), Art Harvey (Roxanna), Cliff Harvey (Patti); and sister, Hazel Beal.
Harley's charity was quiet, generous and private. He was very helpful and kind to everyone.
