Gwendolyn (Davis) Schell, daughter of James Leonard and Maude (Gabriel) Davis, was born October 10, 1927 on the family farm west of Appleton City, Missouri. She departed this life December 20, 2013 in Butler, Missouri at 86 years of age.

Gwen attended grade school at Pleasant Gap, riding her paint pony to school. She attended Appleton City High School moving to town her junior year to an apartment over the Blue Inn where she worked while completing her high school education. Following graduation she worked as a teacher at Taberville's school. She also worked as a teacher part of the time she lived in Kansas.

After her marriage to Rollin J. Schell December 24, 1946 at the courthouse in Ft. Scott, Kansas, they began their life-journey together of almost 67 years, living where Rollin's job took them. They were blessed with four children. The Schells made their home in Pawnee Rock, Great Bend and Ellinwood, Kansas, then in Odessa, Texas and finally returning to Appleton City in 1958. Rollin was employed by Black, Silver & Bryson, then Kennecott Copper which was bought out by Peabody Coal Co. Upon their return to Missouri they bought a farm east of Appleton City where Gwen enjoyed living the farm life, her paint horses, gardening, canning, and helping Rollin in the fields. She was a member of Ohio Christian Church.

In 1978 the family moved into town. Rollin and Gwen were always following and supporting their children's school activities, seldom missing a ballgame. Gwen was very active in coaching, driving children and attending Special Olympic events. She also enjoyed making cookies and pies to share with family and friends. Spending time with her grandchildren was at the top of her list of important things to do. She loved to attend their activities and followed them whenever she could.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Buzz and Bob Davis and daughter, Zenda Schell. Survivors include her husband, Rollin J. Schell of the home; her children, Jerry Schell and wife Janice of Chanute, Kansas, Dale Schell of Roscoe, Missouri and Lexye Oberlander and husband Errich of Raymore, Missouri; her grandchildren, Trent Schell and wife Mollie of El Dorado, Kansas, Travis Schell and wife Amy of Coppell, Texas, Tray Schell and wife Christina of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dustin Schell of Rockville, Missouri, Damon Schell of Montrose, Missouri, Darren Schell of Appleton City, Seth Davis and fiancée Marcie of Princeton, Missouri and Shea Davis of Raymore, Missouri; and five great-grandchildren.
