The MILITARY GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be presented by
Montrose VFW Post 8820 and the Missouri Honor Guard

INTERMENT will be in
St. Ludger Cemetery,
Germantown, Missouri

Gregory Schussler, 81, of Deepwater, Missouri, died December 5, 2012. Greg, as he was commonly called, was born April 10, 1931, to Ed and Eva (Cook) Schussler in the Germantown Community of Montrose, Missouri. He graduated from St. Ludger's grade school. As a young man Greg helped his father on the farm and also did farm work for his uncle and aunt, Jerome and Mamie Cook.

He served in the United States Army from February 15, 1952, to November 17, 1953, 10 months of which were in Korea with the 981st Field Artillery Battalion.

Greg was united in
marriage to Arlene Westhusing on May 17, 1954, at St. Ludger Church in Germantown. One son and three daughters blessed this union. They lived in the Germantown community until buying their farm at Deepwater. He was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church and later Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose. He served on the Parish Council of both parishes.
Greg was a past commander and life member of Montrose VFW Post 8820, and a life member of St. Henry's Council Knights of Columbus. He also served many years on the MFA Oil Company Board of Directors. As long as his health permitted, he helped fry chicken for the annual Germantown Labor Day Picnic. Arriving at 7 a.m., he always worked the early shift.

Greg was a true family man, and farming was his chosen occupation. His grandchildren, when small, would always find their way to Grandpa Greg's lap to explore what he might have in the pockets of his bib overalls.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of the home; son Jeffrey and wife Kathy Schussler of Marion, Iowa; daughters Kay and husband Jim Miller of Raymore,Mo Lori and husband John Merrigan of Greenwood,Mo and Patrice and husband Dan Rodabaugh of Lowry City, Mo; eleven grandchildren Emily (John) Bennett; Erin, Andrew and Alex Miller; Danielle and Bret Rodabaug, Dane, Eric and Maria Schussler; Holly and Kaylee Merrigan; two sisters, Rosalie Sickman and Jackie Cook of Montros, Mo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Reginald Schussler and his wife Edna; brothers–in–law, Denis Sickman and Norman Cook, niece Sylvia Parmley, nephews Chris Sickman, David Sickman and Vernon Cook.
