Georgia M. Wood, 60, daughter of William Henry and Dixie Mae (Chitty) Underwood, was born July 30, 1951 in Butler, Missouri. She departed this life surrounded by her family on July 13, 2012 at Citizen's Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Georgia grew up in the Ballard, Missouri area graduating from Ballard High School in 1969. Shortly after graduation she was united in marriage to George Leonard and to this union one son was born. They made their home in Appleton City, Missouri. In 1985, while working at Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Georgia began school to become a licensed practical nurse; she received her license in 1986. She later was employed by Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri and lovingly cared for patients for over 13 years. During the time she worked at Golden Valley, she was thrilled to be on duty and see her first grandson being born. Georgia finished her nursing career at Community Springs Health Care Facility in El Dorado Springs, Missouri.
Georgia and Bill Wood were united in marriage on May 18, 1996 at the Coal Hill Church in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. They had made their home in El Dorado Springs for the last 16 years.
Reading was one of Georgia's favorite pass times. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Spending time with family was very important to her and her grandchildren topped the list.
Georgia was preceded in death by her brother Pat Underwood. Survivors include her husband, Bill Wood of the home; her son Scotty Leonard and wife Lisa of Schell City, Missouri; her parents Bill and Dixie Underwood of Butler, Missouri; her sister Kit and husband Richard Corum of Adrian, Missouri; two brothers, Steven Underwood and wife Sandra of Republic, Missouri and Frank Underwood and wife Terrie of Newburgh, Indiana; two grandsons, Hunter Leonard and Conner Leonard; four brothers-in-law, Steve and Peggy Wood of Joplin, Missouri, Lloyd and Samantha Wood of Springfield, Missouri, Mike and Pat Wood of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and Pete Wood of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Connie and Johnny Goodwin of Deerfield, Missouri and Lori and Tim Brooks of Lamar, Missouri; several nieces and nephews. Georgia will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
