Floyd E. Culver, son of James Sylvester and Edna L. (Hancock) Culver, was born in Appleton City, Missouri December 13, 1923. He passed away July 24, 2009 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri at 85 years of age.
As a young boy he and his brother, Elvin, attended grade school at Browning School, later attending and graduating from Appleton City High School in May 1942. He was drafted in December of 1942 and stationed in Germany where he served as a medic near the front line. Soon after his discharge in 1945 Floyd was married and had a daughter, Connie. Connie had two sons that Floyd loved and cared about very much. Later in his life he met and married Dolly Neal who changed his life forever. Dolly had a son that Floyd loved and raised as his own. Floyd and Dolly's family lived on a farm outside Appleton City where they raised hogs, chickens, row crops, cattle and horses. In 1982 the Culvers moved to town and Floyd took a job as a policeman in Montrose where he was liked and respected by most. During his lifetime he did and tried many things. He learned guitar and enjoyed playing. He proudly joined the Masonic Lodge and worked to become a member of the Ararat Shrine. He also loved to hunt, garden and liked to tinker with radios. He drove a propane truck for Webster Gas and sold insurance. He was a member of the NRA, the VFW and had served on the Montrose School Board. Floyd loved his two cats, Felix and Alley. He had a good sense of humor and loved to joke with friends and didn't mind having a joke played on him. In his last years he called Appleton City Manor home and liked it there, feeling that he was treated like family.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents James and Edna, his stepmother Rosa (Blakley) Culver, his wife Dolly C. Culver, his daughter Connie Schneider, and his brother Elvin Culver. Survivors include his son Tim R. Culver and wife Deborah, his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Jim Arendt, numerous grandchildren including Megan Culver and Shane and Travis Schneider and numerous great-grandchildren.
