Esther Joyce Vanderslice, age 73 passed away peacefully on August 22, 2020 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. She was the daughter of Benjamin Lawrence and Clara Sarah (Buskirk) Hedrick, born on January 13, 1947. Joyce spent her childhood years in the Stover, Missouri area, graduating from Branson High School in 1964. She later moved to the Appleton City then Osceola areas, where she spent most of her life.
Sewing was Joyce's passion, and she worked for many years as a seamstress at the Levi factory. Along with this she made numerous outfits and quilts for her grandchildren. Joyce was also famous for her cooking and baking skills, especially her bread, rolls, and fried chicken. Loving her morning caffeine fix, she always invited her friends and family to her home to chat and share in a cup of coffee. She remained a dedicated and active member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she helped with Sunday school and youth events. Joyce was an avid collector of butterflies and butterfly memorabilia, and they adorned her home and wardrobe. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 37 years, Charles Vanderslice; two daughters: Rhonda Dotson and Teresa Roland; two grandsons, Guy Westley Dotson and Jacob Lee Hendren; and a granddaughter, Britney Redburn.
Joyce is survived by three daughters: Sherry (Danny) Fox, Brenda Dotson, Charlotte Redburn; four sisters: Barbara Prock, Alma Ruth Odell, Loretta Moon, Debra Kaut; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family members and great friends.
