Emmagene Thomas, daughter of Leonard and Margaret (Dennis) Barnett, was born August 16, 1937 in Appleton City, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Emmagene was raised in the Appleton City area. She graduated from Appleton City High School in 1955 the valedictorian of her class. She attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri graduating with a Bachelor's degree in English, a minor in math and also a Master's degree in English in 1958.
Emmagene and Alvin Bradley Thomas were united in marriage and they were blessed with four sons. They made their home in the Denver, Colorado area for several years. After Alvin's death, Emmagene returned to Appleton City.
She very much enjoyed being a substitute teacher and also was an avid book collector, owning a large selection of classic literature.
Preceding Emmagene in death were her parents, her husband and one sister, Elizabeth Hedberg. Survivors include her sons: Thomas Thomas of Florida, Bradley Thomas, Robert Thomas and John Thomas all of the Denver, Colorado area; two brothers, Martin Barnett of Osceola, Missouri and Clarence Barnett of Appleton City; two sisters, Margaret Barnett of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Ruby Abadir of Woodbridge, Virginia; many nieces and nephews.
