Dorothy May Vickers was born July 24, 1925 in Hiattville, Kansas to Jessie Belle and Viola Mae (Smith) Vickers. Her father was a Methodist minister and died when she was only six months old. After his death her mother brought her family back to the Butler area to raise the children around their grandparents. Dorothy grew up in the Butler, Missouri area, attended and graduated from high school there where she met and married Clifford Miller. They were married for 45 years. They then lived mostly in the Montrose, Appleton City and Rockville areas. She spent many hours sewing dish towels and quilt blocks. She worked at the sewing factory in Appleton City for many years.
Dorothy was so well known for her quick wit and funny comebacks to anything you said to her. She made the best of her life and never complained. Her family was her main focus and she spent many hours babysitting grandchildren. She knew every nursery rhyme by memory and would sit and recite them to her grandkids by the hour. As Dorothy's health failed she moved to the Appleton City Manor Nursing Home where she had spent the last several years of her life in the loving care of the staff.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father Jessie Belle Vickers; her mother Viola Mae (Smith) Vickers; her brother Arley Dean Vickers and a daughter Judith Ann Miller in 1961. Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Arnold of Butler, Missouri and Velma Peterson of Stockton, California; her children, Pat and husband Charlie Anderson, Chris and husband Ron Souza all of Appleton City, Missouri, Cliff Miller, Jr. and Patti McShane of Napa, California, Bob Miller and wife Debbie of Collins, Missouri, and Elaine and husband Mike Moore of Urich, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who loved Aunt Dorothy.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.
