Dones Eugene Bumgardner, son of George and Vicy (Cheek) Bumgardner, was born May 20, 1921. He passed away Friday, May 29, 2009 at Heartland of Willow Lane in Butler, Missouri at the age of 88.
The youngest of eight children, Dones was born in Ira, Missouri but lived most of his life in Lebanon. It was while in Lebanon that he met Edna Louise Kelsay. They were united in marriage on December 4, 1960. Dones and his brother, Dave, were known for their participation with their oxen in the annual Dogwood Parade in Camdenton. Following the death of Dones' mother they moved to south of Appleton City where Dones and Dave farmed, lumbered and hauled wood together until Dave's passing. After his brother's death Dones continued to farm for as long as health allowed.
Dones and Edna moved to Appleton City ten years ago but the last two years were spent at Heartland Willow Lane in Butler, Missouri. Dones had many friends in El Dorado Springs, Lebanon and Appleton City. Dones and Edna loved to sit on the front porch and sing, especially church songs. Dones worked hard all of his life. He loved his wife and cared for her and she for him throughout their lives. He was kind, trusting, honest and thankful for everything. Dones was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended as long as he was able.
Dones was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings: Tressy, Joseph, Mary, David, James and Allen. He is survived by his wife Edna Bumgardner, nieces Pauline McGuire and Judy Norton, both of Rayville, Missouri along with a host of relatives and friends.
