Obituary

The family of Donald Phillip Sunderland will be holding a GRAVESIDE SERVICE at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.

The family will greet friends in the parish hall between 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.

The family suggests MEMORIAL donations in lieu of flowers be made to Zion Lutheran School (Prairie City) or Holy Trinity Preschool (Grandview, MO) and may be left with them on service day.

Donald Phillip Sunderland of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away June 8th 2020 at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was the son of Enoch Sunderland and Frances (Allen) Sunderland. He was born on October 25th 1932 on a farm north of Callao Missouri. He spent most of his younger years working on the farm where he was born. He was drafted into the Army and sent to Korea to serve his country for 18 months. When he returned from Korea he worked in the Callao area until moving to Kansas City in 1957 where he worked for McCalls Service Station for a short time before taking a job at American Cyanamid where he would work for 28 years. While in Kansas City he met Margaret Rapp and they were married on November 9th, 1958. He would also be baptized and confirmed into the Missouri Synod Lutheran faith, which he would remain a member of until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clark and Derald and two sisters, June Speak and Doris Pyle. He is survived by his wife Margaret of the home, his daughter Nancy Oexman of Harrisonville,Missouri, three sisters, Norma Williams of Licking, Missouri, Pearl Nickel of Cleveland, Georgia and Carol Abernathy of Cleveland, Georgia, three grandchildren, Kyle Oexman and Wife Amanda of Rockville, Missouri, Koby Oexman of Peculiar, Missouri and Kristopher Oexman and Wife Kayla of Peculiar, Missouri. And two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Addison. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends that will deeply miss him.
