A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Don will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City, Missouri.

The MINISTER officiating at the service will be Pastor David Herald.

VISITATION will be held at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.

INTERMENT was in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

The family suggests any MEMORIAL donations be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Donald Henry Harms, 77, of rural Appleton City, Missouri passed away at his home June 12, 2018.  Don was born October 11, 1940 at Ellett Hospital in Appleton City, the eldest son of Lawrence Peter and Edna (Wafel) Harms.  He graduated from Appleton City High School in 1958.  Shortly after completing his education he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country proudly.  After completing his duty, Don began a life-long career in agriculture, raising livestock and row crops.  During this time he married Jean Niggley on December 26 1966.  To this union two sons were born: Paul and Don.

Apart from farming, the great pleasure of Don's life was playing cards with his friends.  He traveled far and wide to many poker tournaments, where, according to him, he never lost a hand.  Don dearly loved his family; he never missed a ball game and always sacrificed for them.  Never meeting a stranger, he had a personality that lit up every room he entered.  His sons, their wives and grandchildren were the love of his life, who he cherished spending time with and teaching them the ways of the world.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jean, in 1998.  He is survived by his two sons, Paul Harms and wife Laura of Peculiar, Missouri and Don Harms and wife Dara of Glenwood, Iowa; grandchildren: Kylie Morgan Harms, Tyler Joseph Harms, Kelsey Lauren Harms, Katelyn Marie Harms and Lucas Wayne Harms; one sister, Katherin Parsons and husband John and one brother, Roger Harms and wife Carol; many nieces and nephews.
